Ultrasuede™ nu used for the seats, is environmentally-conscious material using 100% plant-based polyester*. It’s luxury and reminiscent of premium aniline leather, but has also high functionality like breathabilty, providing passengers a smooth and comfortable ride. It can give a great advantage also for operators, because of it’s light weight and super durability.

The seats and pillars of APURE concept model are cushioned with a high-performance polyolefin foam called TORAYPEF™. This foam is placed under the Ultrasuede surface to provide padding in areas where people touch the interior and gives a softer, more comfortable feel. For APURE concept model, we use a new grade of PEF. This version is partially made from plant-based materials in development.
-
For public transport vehicles, making the interior flame retardant and flame sielding is a consideration, and the APURE concept model is designed to use Gulfeng™, which has these properties. Gulfeng™ will not puncture or tear even when exposed to flames, and its ability to prevent flame penetration ensures passenger safety.

Toray Plastics Precision’s carbon fiber reinforced resin extrusion material is a combination of PA6 and carbon fiber, and can be processed using conventional engineering plastic equipment. It is a material that is lightweight, strong, tough, easy to process, recyclable, and suitable for mass production. When used for speaker covers, it has been evaluated as faithfully reproducing the original sound, and has begun to be adopted in some areas.
-
Toraypearl™ PA6 is a PA6 powder with spherical particle size achieved through Toray’s proprietary polymerization technology, and has optimal properties for 3D printing. Toraypearl™’s spherical shape provides excellent fluidity and filling during lamination, enabling 3D printing with smooth surfaces and precise shapes, and it was used in the handle of the APURE concept model.
-
Plastic optical fiber Raytela™ is used for in-vehicle lighting, taking advantage of its light weight and easy-to-bend characteristics. In addition to ambient lighting through end lighting and side lighting, it can be used for a wide range of automotive interior lighting, such as decorative lighting for door trims by weaving optical fiber.
-
The APURE concept model uses carbon fiber in the frame to support the vehicle body, making it lighter and more energy-efficient.In the future, some parts of the vehicle are expected to incorporate recycled carbon fiber, which is currently in development. The APURE model also takes a fresh approach to sustainability by using recycled materials in the exterior design.
-
In this APURE concept model, it is envisioned that carbon fiber will be used for the ramp intended for wheelchair access. Compared to ramps made of metals such as aluminum, this is expected to be lighter, which could be advantageous for automating the lift mechanism.
-
The APURE concept model includes a glass roof with Toray’s metal-free film, PICASUS™ IR, sandwiched between two layers of glass. This film blocks infrared rays, keeping the interior cooler and improving energy efficiency. PICASUS™ IR allows passengers to enjoy the outside view in comfort, making public transport a more pleasant experience.
